The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce a masterclass with renowned pianist Stephen Hough as part of his upcoming residency in Burlington.
On Saturday March 26, 2022, Hough performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 at the Flynn, conducted by VSO Music Director candidate Tania Miller. The concert also includes Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1 and Yatra by Sri Lankan/Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne. The masterclass will take place on Friday, March 25, 2022, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the UVM Recital Hall in partnership with the UVM Lane Series. The masterclass is open and free to the public, but requires pre-booking via Eventbrite. There is a limit of 100 general seating tickets available which will be available to book at this link.
We are calling all talented and aspiring Vermont-based piano students up to and including 22 years of age who can respond to Mr. Hough’s guidance and instruction in a public setting.
- Four finalists will be selected to take part in the masterclass. Each of the four finalists will have approximately 15-20 minutes to work with Mr. Hough on the piece of music they’ve submitted with this application.
- Each finalist will receive up to 4 complimentary tickets to the VSO Classical Series Concert on March 26, 2022.
- Housing arrangements can be made if required for finalists outside of the Burlington area.
Finalists will be decided by a jury selected by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and announced publicly and informed in writing by Monday, February 21, 2022.
