Music by “the 21st century’s gatecrasher of classical music” (NPR), Missy Mazzoli, starts the VSO’s 2023-2024 season finale. Pianist Adam Tendler follows with the VSO-commissioned world premiere performance of a Justin Morgan hymn tune-infused concerto composed by fellow Vermonter Nico Muhly. Des Prez’s moving love song and perhaps Mozart’s most emotional and enduring work, featuring the VSO Chorus, complete the concert. This concert is conducted by VSO Music Director Andrew Crust; the second half features soloists soprano Mary Bonhag, mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, tenor Benjamin Butterfield, and bass-baritone Kevin Deas alongside the VSO Chorus lead by Jose-Daniel Flores Caraballo.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is preceded at 6:30 p.m. by Musically Speaking, a free pre-concert discussion that provides entertaining insight into the evening’s program.
