Whispers from the Past interweaves music composed during the Holocaust with ancestral Jewish melodies. Vermont Symphony Orchestra members Laura Markowitz, Ana Ruesink, and John Dunlop perform as Temple Trio, a string ensemble consisting of violin, viola, and cello, in this program that transcends a time of sorrow with the human desire for hope.
These free concerts take place leading up to Yom Hashoah, or Day of Remembrance (April 17/18), to commemorate victims of the Holocaust. Besides music of composers such as Viktor Ullmann, Gideon Klein, and Hans Krasa who perished in the camps, there are works by two composers who lived through the Holocaust as well as a collection of Yiddish songs.
